Long Range
Transportation Plan (LRTP)
The Genesee County 2035
Long Range Transportation Plan identifies our transportation
deficiencies, summarizes our transportation network, and offers a vision
of projected transportation needs over the next 25 years. This plan is the
result of public participation and professional dedication from numerous
transportation agencies, operators, planners, and local stakeholders. It
incorporates information about population, employment, and housing, and how
these factors relate to the transportation planning process.

The Transportation Improvement Program (TIP), prepared by Genesee County
Metropolitan Planning Commission is a four-year schedule and budget of proposed
transportation improvements within Genesee County. The TIP is typically updated
as needed through a multi-step
process in association with the Transportation System Management (TSM), Technical
Advisory Committee (TAC) and final approval by the Metropolitan Alliance. The
TIP addresses transportation projects and programs to include: federal, state
and local highways, transit, ride sharing, bike paths, and pedestrian
facilities.
The Unified Work Program (UWP) outlines on an annual basis the work that staff
will be undertaking and approximately how much time will be spent in each
category.
Local road agencies collect traffic counts on Genesee County roads during the spring, summer and fall months. The counts are uploaded to the Genesee County traffic count website on a daily basis and maps are made of the counts collected every two years. The traffic count section of this website has links an interactive traffic count map that is updated daily and also to historic traffic count maps.
Rideshare
Rideshare is a free, computerized carpool and
vanpool matching service developed to help people who commute into or within
Genesee and Lapeer Counties, to form carpools and vanpools.

Transportation Safety
Transportation safety is integrated into all aspect of transportation planning in Genesee County. The Safety portion of this website provides information on recent safety reports conducted by our staff and partner agencies and provides links to Michigan State Police safety data that is available to the public. Pavement
Condition Survey of Genesee County
Every year staff works with local road agencies
to assess the condition of all federal aid eligible roads in Genesee County.

The Genesee Regional Trail Council is
an informal group of trail advocates, local units of government, county
agencies, and community organizations with staff support provided by the Genesee
County Metropolitan Planning Commission.
Transit
Planning
This
service is intended to contribute to the development of an efficient and
effective transit service in the Flint-Genesee County area.
Studies of transit related issues and problems are completed under this
activity and includes the development of the
Genesee County
Coordinated Public
Transit-Human Services Transportation Plan. For more information on

Land Use and Transportation
A 2006 Land Use Study and a Scenario Planning analysis have helped to better link transportation to land use in Genesee County. These efforts have been document as part of the 2035 Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) can be viewed by clicking here.
Genesee County Transportation Model
The Genesee County Transportation Model is a computer program used to forecast travel on major roads in the county. The Modeling Development Committee (MDC) guides the model development process.
A
Congestion Management Process (CMP) is a systematic process for managing
congestion that provides information on transportation system performance.
A CMP monitors and evaluates performance, identifies alternative
strategies, assesses and implements cost-effective actions, and evaluates the
effectiveness of implemented strategies.

This guide provides a broad
description of transportation planning and decision making processes in Genesee
County, Michigan. It is our goal to provide information to you, the public, and
encourage you to participate in transportation planning activities that
ultimately affect each of us daily. You can make a difference!
GCMPC currently administers several major program divisions: Transportation, Community Development and Solid Waste Management. These programs are conducted in a manner so as to ensure compliance with Federal and State of Michigan Civil Rights legislation, statutes, regulations and executive orders. As a sub-recipient of Federal funds, GCMPC must make sure that its programs and activities are free of discrimination. The Title VI Plan describes how GCMPC complies with Civil Rights legislation and principles. It also contains a section on complaint procedures for the Transportation, Community Development and Solid Waste Management program divisions at GCMPC.
