Another service provided by the Register of Deeds office is general filming for various other county departments, as well as the filming of Register of Deeds recordations. You may obtain copies of any recorded document from this department for a fee of $1.00 per copied page.

Plat Board

The Register of Deeds is also responsible for checking and processing all subdivision plats, preliminary and final. The plat is approved by the plat board and sent to Lansing for approval. The Plat Board consists of the Register of Deeds as Chairperson. The County Clerk and the County Treasurer are Plat Board members.

Sheriff Deed Redemption

The Register of Deeds can serve as a collection agency for Sheriff Deed and Clerk Deed redemptions. Redemption figures are computed upon request, given a specific redemption date within the redemption period. Make money orders, or certified cashier’s checks payable to Genesee County Register of Deeds, for the amount designated by us. We will process any redemption that you have the right to make, during the legal time period. These redemptions may also be conducted directly with the involved parties (financial institutions) or their legal counsel.

Tax Liens

Liens are only recorded with the Register of Deeds Office. We do not place or remove liens without the proper paperwork from the parties placing the liens on your property.
